KETO, PALEO, WHOLE30 ULTIMATE STEAK RUB

On this Paleo Whole30 and sometimes Keto journey, I’m always looking for ways to season our proteins.   Over time I’ve found that these seasonings below have become our favourites.  They are Keto, Paleo, and Whole30.  The best aspect is that they are all salt-free and sugar-free.  In my opinion we get almost as much daily sodium that we need in hidden ways.  If I am to add any sweetness to my daily culinary routine, it’s in the form of low glycemic versions mostly found in the desserts I prepare.  I use date paste.

 

 

RECIPE NUTRITIONAL VALUE:

 

What we often don’t take into consideration is that many seasonings have nutritional value as well as good taste.  In this recipe, the seasonings with nutritional values as follows:  

 

Smoked Paprika: Paprika contains antioxidants that kill free radicals in the body linked to cancer and heart disease.    

 

Ground ancho chile pepper:  Ancho chili peppers have some capsaicin, considered anti-inflammatory.  Incorporating this seasoning into your dishes may help fight inflammatory disorders like arthitis, shingles, psoriasis and diabetic neuropathy.

 

Dried thyme: Packed with vitamin C and A and so good for helping to combat the common cold.  Also contains copper, iron, and maganese.

 

Ground black pepper: High in antioxidants, black pepper helps to kill free radicals that cause damage to your sells.  This spice has antiinflammatory benefits, along with lowering bad cholesterol, fighting cancer, and helping to stabalize sugar levels.

 

Garlic powder: As you may be well aware, all forms of garlic are beneficial to our health.  This seasoning combats the flu and colds, helps to reduce high blood pressure and improves cholesterol levels, as well as helping to reduce the risk of heart disease.

 

Onion powder: This seasoning helps to prevent infections, helps to reduce risk of cancer, and promotes heart and bone health.

 

Ground mustard: This seasoning is high in vitamins, such as A, C, and K, thus contributing toward good eye and heart health.

 

Ground cumin: This is a superfood spice.  Ground cumin aids in digestion.  Adding this spice to your cooking will help improve bad cholesterol, promote weight loss and fat reduction, help with diabetes.

 

RECIPE TASTE PROFILE:  The predominant taste sensation is fattiness from the steak.  The rub provides a smoky and deep melded flavour that enhances every bit.

 

 

 

DIRTY-BIRDY WINE PARTNER (For those maintaining a Paleo Whole30 lifestyle):  With the predominant taste sensation being fattiness, go with a big, red wine.  You can choose a smooth red rather than an austere one.  The reason is that the rub is salt free.   So, a smooth, fruity red will taste delicious against the deep smokiness of the rub on the steak.  Delicious.

 

RECIPE: 

KETO, PALEO, WHOLE30 ULTIMATE STEAK RUB
Measure the ingredients and place them together in a bowl. Mix well.

Sprinkle abut a teaspoon of the rub on one side of the steak. Push the rub into the flesh with your fingers. Do on both sides of each steak.

Pan-fry, bake, or BBQ the steaks to the desired doneness.

Ingredients

2 tablespoons smoked paprika

2 tablespoons ground ancho chili pepper

1 tablespoon dried Thyme

1 tablespoon ground black pepper

1 tablespoon onion powder

1 tablespoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon ground mustard

1 teaspoon ground cumin

Instructions

Place all ingredients in a bowl and mix together.  Transfer to a sterilized glass jar, seal, and use as needed.
